After no one claimed a 70-year-old Hindu woman’s body after she died of coronavirus, a Muslim man performed her last rites.
“Sunita Devi, a homeless woman, was admitted to the medical college emergency (ward) on April 5 with a fever and a breathing problem.
She tested positive for COVID-19 and died on April 29th while undergoing treatment “Pooja Tripathi, the college’s public relations officer, said.
Police were notified when no one came to claim the body, and her body was held in the mortuary for six days, she said.
Merajuddin Khan, a local resident, planned to cremate the body on Tuesday. According to the cop, he performed Devi’s last rites with the assistance of ambulance driver Beeru.
Khan, a local journalist, had also assisted Sudama Devi (60), the daughter of another deceased, in arranging money for her mother’s last rites.
