Snowfall: Woman delivers a baby on a make-shift stretcher in Keller Shopian on the way to the hospital
Shopian, Jan 05: A woman gave birth to a baby on a make-shift stretcher when she was taken to a hospital in the Keller belt of the Shopian district of South Kashmir amid heavy snowfall and uncleared highways.
Locals from Keller’s Zrakan village told KNO news agency that a woman named Akhter Jan, wife of Zrakan Keller’s Papa Poswal, gave birth to a baby on a make-shift stretcher on the way to the hospital in the midst of heavy snowfall and uncleared paths.
A local activist, Choudhary Showkat Shabir, said that after a lady developed a work pain, locals made efforts to take her to SDH Keller, which is about 10 km away.
However, before reaching hospital, the lady gave birth to a baby on a make-shift stretcher and now both baby and mother’s condition is stable at SDH Keller, he said.
“He said “you can see the plight and misery of the Gujjar Bakerwal community and a woman gave birth to a baby on a make-shift stretcher due to uncleared lane.
He asked authorities to clear the roads in their area so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
Locals said that, despite repeated requests to take a pregnant lady to the hospital, the authorities failed to clear the lane. They called on officials to investigate the matter and clear the roads at the earliest (KNO)
