1 min read

Poonch, Jan 31: In Poonch district, the first case of avian flu, commonly known as bird flu, was confirmed after samples taken from a dead crow tested positive on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav, told News Observer news agency that samples of a dead crow were tested positive for avian influenza, taken in the Mandi Tehsil district.

He said, however, that so far no sample of domestic poultry has been tested positive.

DC Poonch further told that, in the light of this first case of avian influenza, samples of all points of sale and poultry from the backyard were to be taken within one kilometre of the Mandi district.

Normal monitoring surveillance

The Department of Animal Husbandry in the region also maintains routine surveillance,” he said.

It should be noted here that in the last two weeks, many wild birds, particularly crows, died mysteriously in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch while their samples were taken for KNOO testing.
