Srinagar: In connection with the abduction and sexual harassment of a 23-year-old woman in Budgam district, the Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a man and filed a case against him.

According to local news gathering agency Current News Service (CNS), the defendant identified as Azaan Kaunsar, son of Kaunsar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Hyderabad, has been arrested and a case under FIR number 465/2020 under Section 366-376 has been registered in this respect.

In the meantime, the locals of the district have expressed sympathy for the family of the victim and demanded justice for the family of the victim.

In addition to Budgam’s religious leaders and civil society, locals have requested that the accused be seriously punished, claiming “it would serve as a lesson for young people who are becoming increasingly misguided in society.”

The locals of the area added that the accused is the son of prominent hotelier and he is trying to influence the case through influential means. They have also sought the intervention of higher officials to ensure transparency in the case.

“Our society is rapidly losing high moral values. It is our collective responsibility to take stock of our own situation and decide whether to take responsibility for such tragedies in our society,” the residents said.(CNS)
