Srinagar: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two suspects along with arms and ammunition in Narwal area of Jammu district.
In a statement, the police said that a team of SOG Jammu laid a special checkpoint at Narwal area at around 1730 hrs based on a credible input regarding the movement of militants with automatic weapons in Narwal area going towards Srinagar.
SOG team signalled a white Alto car (JK18A 9967) to stop during vehicle checking in the area, but it tried to escape the checkpoint (Naka).
The statement added that after observing the suspicious movement, SOG team immediately chased the vehicle and apprehended it with two suspects onboard namely Raees Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan Dar, resident of Churath, Qazigund and Subzar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Ashmuji, Kulgam.
The statement further stated that the joint team recovered one AK-series rifle, one pistol, two AK-series magazines, 60 AK-rounds and 15 pistol rounds upon inspection of a bag in the possession of Rayees.
On this, under Sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122 of IPC, 7/25 of A.Act, 18, 20, 38 & 39 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) 1967, a case vide FIR No. 359/20 was registered at the Bahu Fort Police Station and investigation was taken up, reads the statement. (The GNS)
